Deposit sent without a memo or destination tag
Some assets share a single deposit address across every customer of an exchange. The destination tag or memo is the only thing that says which account a transfer belongs to. Send without it and the money arrives, but nothing knows whose it is.
This is a routine — if slow — support case, because the platform can see the transfer and can credit it manually once you prove the sending address is yours.
What usually causes this
These are the common explanations for this category of problem. Which one applies to your transfer depends on your transaction, the network it used and the destination's deposit rules — that is what the check above works out.
- XRP sent without a destination tag
- XLM, ATOM, EOS or HBAR sent without a memo
- A tag entered in the wrong field, or truncated
- A withdrawal from another exchange that didn't pass the tag through
Which platforms require a memo or destination tag
Where a platform shares one deposit address between customers, the tag is the only thing identifying your account. A transfer without it arrives somewhere real and belongs to nobody in particular until support attributes it.
| Platform | Assets that need a tag |
|---|---|
| Binance | XRP, XLM, ATOM, EOS, HBAR |
| Coinbase | XLM, ATOM, HBAR |
| Kraken | XRP, XLM, ATOM, EOS |
| Crypto.com | XRP, XLM, ATOM, EOS, HBAR |
| Bybit | XRP, XLM, ATOM, EOS |
| OKX | XRP, XLM, ATOM, EOS |
| KuCoin | XRP, XLM, ATOM, EOS |
| Revolut | XRP, XLM |

Questions
Is a deposit without a tag lost?
Usually not. Most exchanges can locate and credit it manually. Expect to prove ownership of the sending address, expect a fee at some platforms, and expect it to take days rather than minutes.
How do I prove the transfer was mine?
Screenshots from the sending wallet or exchange showing the withdrawal, alongside the transaction hash, are normally enough. The paid diagnosis lists exactly what to include.
